Writer - Ecotheologian - Wild Church Pastor

I am a writer, ecotheologian, and pastor in the United Church of Christ (UCC). I am the convener of Flicker Wild Church, which I often host alongside my spouse & Ritual Artist Rev. Dr. Julia Burkey, although our young wild ones Reverie Faye and Kindred Praise are the true spiritual guides. I am also an independent scholar, intellectual nomad, and a Wisconsin Master Naturalist, although I identify more as amateur in the etymological sense: lover of the living world. I often write at the intersections of spiritual ecology, theology, poetry, and climate justice.

My first book Speak with the Earth and It Will Teach You: A Field Guide to the Bible (Pilgrim Press, 2022) was awarded the Gold Prize in the 2023 Nautilus Book Awards—Religion and Spirituality of the West. My newest book is Live Each Season as It Passes.
